Is there any point in unbanning a banned player to ban them yourself?

I’ve noticed that someone was banned for an inappropriate username last night, he was then later unbanned then banned again by a different staff member for the same reason.

what’s the point in this?

not all staff can perm ban, so it's likely that the original staff member wasn't able to

(educated guess) helpers probably cant ban for longer than like 7 days so the helper probably banned them for 7 days and a higher up staff came in later and banned the player for the longer actually ban

It wasn’t a helper, it was a moderator who permanently banned the player.

who was then unbanned to be perm banned for e same reason again

The issue here was that the original ban was bugged for some reason and the player was still able to log in. I decided to run the ban again to make sure the ban worked.

Or if two mods run the command at the same time it will ban him once, then unban him then ban him again. This has happened with hackers before when two mods were spectating the hacker and both banned at the same time. We try to coordinate so this doesn't happen, but sometimes it does.
